THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NURSES’ KNOWLEDGE AND MOTIVATION WITH HAND HYGIENE COMPLIANCE AT PKU MUHAMMADIYAH HOSPITAL YOGYAKARTA

Background: Hand hygiene is a key World Health Organization (WHO) intervention to prevent Hospital Acquired Infection (HAIs). Nurses' knowledge and motivation influence co mpliance with WHO standard hand hygiene procedures. Objective: Analysing the relationship between the level of knowledge and motivation of nurses with hand hygiene compliance at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta. Method: This research method uses a descriptive analytical correlation study with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 38 third-class inpatient nurses. The analysis of data was conducted using the Spearman's rho correlation test. Result: The results of this study showed no significant relationship between nurses' knowledge and hand hygiene compliance (p=0.752, r=0.053, very weak positive correlation). In contrast, there was a significant relationship between nurses' motivation and hand hygiene compliance (p<0.001, r=0.772, strong positive correlation).
