The Relationship Between Diet and Nutritional Status in Class X Students at SMA N 2 Yogyakarta

Teenagers in high school who are between the ages of 15 and 16 are classified as middle youth. Teenagers tend to pay less attention to their diet and prefer to consume fast food because they are involved in a lot of activities both inside and outside of school. In addition, the majority of teenagers do not engage in physical activity. Nutritional status is influenced by factors such as inadequate food and exercise, which can raise the risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and hypertension. In Yogyakarta, 15.8% of adolescents have an obese nutritional status; Yogyakarta City has the highest percentage, 22.8%. This study aims to determine the relationship between diet and physical activity with nutritional status in class X students at SMA N (State Senior High School) 2 Yogyakarta. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlation method with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling in this study was through a questionnaire and BMI measurements were carried out to determine the nutritional status of 77 respondents. The data analysis in this study was conducted by using the Spearman Rank test. There is a moderately significant relationship between diet and nutritional status (r=0.517) and physical activity and nutritional status (r=0.442). Meanwhile, the Sig (2-tailed) correlation results obtained P=0.000 (P<0.01) so it can be said that there is a significant relationship between the two variables. The findings of this study indicate that there is a correlation between diet, physical activity, and nutritional status among class X students at SMA N 2 Yogyakarta. Respondents should be able to increase their food intake and physical activity levels while maintaining a normal and healthy nutritional status.
